Master Class: Documentary

Lecturer: Katja Trippel

The 360°-GEO reportage on the channel arte is with around 400 films one of the most successful documentary series on TV. In 52 minutes a “challenge” is pursued by the protagonist – from an entomologist-researcher who fights in the Bolivian rainforest against smuggling of beetles, about glassblowers from the Carpathians to a young man in the kingdom of Bhutan, who prefers researching cranes rather than to go into the monastery. How a GEO reportage is realized? Where do the ideas come from? What must an exposé and a sript offer ? How do writers and a production team refine ideas from narration to cut? That’s the main focus in this masterclass using the example of realized GEO-documentaries.
