Two Indigenous mycologists in Mexico blend ancestral knowledge and science to protect mushrooms.
Deep in the forests of Mexico, we follow
Lis and Juli, two young mycologists from
Indigenous communities whose relationship
with the rich diversity of local mushrooms
spans generations. The world they know is
changing, and their efforts are threatened
by deforestation and environmental loss.
“Daughters of the Forest” is a story of
entanglements: between humans and
mushrooms; the visible and the invisible;
ancestral knowledge and modern science.
A film for those inspired by women who bridge
generations of knowledge – and anyone
curious about the beauty of fungi.
The screening is followed by a talk with Ursula Peintner
(University of Innsbruck).
