Cosmic Radiation at Hafelekar

On the Hafelekar at 2300 m above Innsbruck, the Austrian Nobel Prize winner Victor Franz Hess, the discoverer of cosmic radiation, operated the laboratory for ultra-radiation research in the 1930s, which was designated a historical memorial site in 2022 and has been open to visitors ever since. Emmerich Kneringer *) offers an excursion to this high mountain museum, gives a guided tour of the rooms, demonstrates experiments, explains historical measuring instruments and talks about the origin and the detection of cosmic rays.
*) Univ.-Prof. Dr. Emmerich Kneringer teaches at the Institute for Astro- and Particle Physics at the , University of Innsbruck and conducts research at the ATLAS experiment at CERN, the European Center for Particle Physics in Switzerland.
